Spatial intelligence

In one of my university classes the teacher asks us in teams to do a square (a special partnof the class that is specify in something) of a specific multiple intelligence, and we’ve done the spatial intelligence.

The aim of this post is to explain an idea to develop this activities. The reason that I want to show you this is because I think that is very important doing this type of activities.

As you can see in the picture, is like a game of probes (Ginkana), were all of them starts in the same point that is  an exercise where they have to make a figure with their bodies, and is here where the teacher has to observe because she is going to send each children to one level or other of difficulties, because all of them are going to work the same type of activities, but with the difference that ones are going to have a hardest one that the others.

The great thing of doing it like this is that with one of the principal objectives that is that they develop their spatial intelligence, as they improve more or less they can move (the teacher do it) to the different difficulties.

Why? The reason is that not all of them have the same spatial intelligences, so we can’t demand them the same grade of difficulties in the activities.

This idea came with my argument in contest of some ideas about activities to develop the multiple intelligences. This argument is that I’m a bit fed up (sorry for the expression) that everyone says that is very important to work with the multiple intelligences, that each children on the class is different in order to their intelligences capacities… but when they work with them they use the same activities for everyone, so why they argue that is important to empathize the different intelligences of each children if then they do one thing for every child and the one that they don’t have that intelligence as develop as another is going to be lost and the worst is not going to learn or promote that intelligence.

So if we make the same activities for everyone but adapted (as you can see in my activities idea) to their own grade of an specific intelligence, they are going to improve it, if not we are only going to help the extremes, or those that really have that intelligences (the other ones are going to get in the forget) or the ones that don’t have really develop this intelligence (the ones that yes are going to become bored and they are not going to strength their intelligence).

The last thing  is that if you decide to do an activity like this is important that you know very well this:

-          All of them start with a neutral activities

-          The level of difficulties is not fixed, they move in order their grade if the intelligence

-          We look for an individual development of the intelligence (in this case spatial)

-          The teacher has to be a really good observant

-          We DON’T CLASSIFY, we are not going to say never to a child that has a lower or high level, for that we can say: ‘’okay now you have to go to the red activities’’ we use colors, or special names.

-          The intelligences are not teacher are discovered by the person

-          As they don’t have the same level of a multiple intelligence, you can demand the same activity grade for everyone
